Moreno Valley Unified School District earns 18 California Pivotal Practice Awards
MORENO VALLEY, Calif. – The Moreno Valley Unified School District was announced as one of 121 school districts to receive the 2022 California Pivotal Practice (CAPP) Award Program, along with 17 of its schools out of 727 schools statewide.
The award program is being utilized by California in 2022 in place of the California Distinguished Schools (DS) Program. It celebrates schools and districts that implemented an innovative practice during the 2020–21 school year, when California required schools to offer distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are truly honored to receive 18 pivotal practice awards for the outstanding work our schools and district did despite the challenges that were presented by the pandemic,” said Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora. “It has not been easy, but these awards reflect the dedication, commitment, and perseverance of our students and staff during such a difficult time.”
In a period when pandemic disruptions made it hard to collect data for statewide assessments, the CDE worked with education association partners to create the CAPP Award to honor the efforts of schools and districts who designed and implemented unique opportunities and strategies to support students in this most challenging time.
“We are proud of the efforts of all our students and staff,” said School Board President Cleveland Johnson. “It is amazing to see how they went above and beyond to continue to provide Excellence on Purpose so our students could continue to Shine Brighter.”
CAPP Award winners completed an online application highlighting an innovative practice in one of the four target areas that was implemented during the 2020–21 school year:

- Distribution of Technology
- Nutrition Services
- Social Emotional Well-Being of Students
